Interesting take, Abena. I am not of African descent but had the good fortune of living in Uganda for a couple of years. Many Ugandans of South Asian origin were persecuted by the Amin regime, but some of them returned to their "home" country when President Museveni extended an invitation to them. They are of Indian origin, but Uganda is very much their home, not India.

I think it is perilous to use race to define the idea of home. For example, I am of Indian origin, but have lived for much longer in other countries than I have in India. I feel more at home in an internationally diverse community than where I am originally from.

It is truly sad what is happening to Black Americans in America, but America is very much their home. They can have more than one home, and it is heartening that African countries are welcoming them. Yet, it is as much their own prerogative to change things in America, and it is wonderful to see that many of them are.
