Hi Amardeep, I'm curious what led you to believe why this is not yet a mainstream view?

I used to be a development economist. I think poverty as freedom is now very much the best practice way of thinking about and trying to solve poverty issues. Work by other development activists such as Esther Duflo, Abhijit Banerjee, and many others does focus on poverty as the inability of people to live the lives they value (from their own perspective). The World Bank has also adopted this view largely for over a decade.

Happy to continue the conversation!
